Well, well. My first rap/ hip-hop/whatever concert. I saw Kanye West Sunday night with 7 friends. All of which enjoyed it more than I did. I'm glad I went, for the experience. His backup orchestra was good, though. Oh well, $17 bucks to see someone famous with some friends, not bad.

In other news, I'm almost done with school. Two days of classes left, including today, and only 8 days until my last final. I'll be back home Thursday night.

I actually have friends from SU to miss this summer, which is both good and bad I suppose :)

Here I am.

I had a big presentation today. Three guys, 80 minutes. It went well, but apparently I get lost in the woodwork. *Note to self; déjà vu* Tiananmen Square though; I got pretty into it by the end. Chinese politics are fascinating. I wish I had their (the students) guts. Maybe I do, give me a repressive government, we'll see.

Away from U2, Sixty Second Interval - The Vapors

One of the nicest guys; funny, polite, thought-provoking, intelligent. So we shot him with a pickle. Maybe I'll have pictures to post at some point, we'll see. Or a video. James says the muzzle velocity was 210 mph. That's exactly why I passed on that one.

70º is my new limit, anything more is too much. It's always at the end too, when I have to concentrate on finals and ridiculous papers. High school was much worse.

I found this story while surfing a bit this afternoon. They're really quite pretty, and the idea of a 7000 fps camera is just cool. There's a movie here too.

Atmospheric Sprites are flashes of light above thunderclouds during intense storms. I didn't even know they existed.

Thanks to Sarah Benedict for observing, a knife stuck in the ceiling at work. This patch of the ceiling is directly in front of June's office (she's in charge of everything, as best as I can guess). I thought it was funny, so I attached a web cam to a laptop and took some really crude (quality wise) pictures. The highlight of work today. Aside from my bagel with peanut butter.

For the first time in my life I got to celebrate Valentine's Day this year! I surprised Kim on Monday by showing up in Utica and taking her out to dinner. Rio Grande TexMex :D

We exchanged Valentine's Day gifts. Mine is the best by far (pictures to the left, click to enlarge). Painted Styrofoam, who would have thought? Clearly one of the advantages of dating an art school girl ;)

On Tuesday the Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) guys cooked and served dinner for the ladies at Eastside Vineyard Church in DeWitt. We wanted to show them how much we appreciate them. Naturally, I don't need the plublicity in this area, but I'm sure the girls were impressed.

Exciting pictures are starting to flow in from recent escapades. Look forward to it, I am. Also, I have a web cam now and can take pictures of stuff myself, as long as it's within sight of my computer... Stay tuned for exciting web cam news. If I have the time to work out the streaming technology...

Birthday Celebration

I know it was almost two weeks ago now, but I finally have time and the pictures to post about my birthday dinner/party. It was nice to get together with high school and church friends. Some I hadn't seen in over a year.

On the menu was my dad's pizza, mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, fruit salad, and cheesecake. All quite delicious.

The presents were memorable. George and Derek got me a katana sword for my hedging chores. My parents got me a racquetball racquet among other things. Kim gave me a set of picture frames, a coloring book and crayons. When I get sick of political contention theory, I'll have to take a coloring brake. I love it all :D

I know this wasn't a very funny post, hopefully this picture will make up for it.

This may help too, check out Kim's recent post if you haven't already. Don't worry, Kim had nothing to do with it, or so she conveniently claims. ;) (Remember, if you click on the picture, it gets bigger!)

We ended the evening with Transporter 2, possibly the best *cough* movie ever *cough* made. We had fun though.

First Day Back

Yesterday was the first day of classes for me. I only had two, and they went really well. The first was Constitutional Law II, which will keep me really busy with the reading. The second, Rationality and Politics, seems okay and I know two people in the class.

I worked on situating my room more. I put up seven more pictures in my new frames. Now I have even more pictures of Kim around my dorm.

It also my birthday :D

Five people sang to me and I went out to dinner with some friends from Campus Crusade. We went to King David's on M Street. I don't think I've ever had that much hummus in one sitting. I had a great day, and everyone made me feel loved.

After a wonderful, relaxing weekend I'm back to reading endless articles on Ancient Greece and Rome. Here's a picture to give you an idea. I want one for Christmas.

On Friday I drove(!) out to Utica to spend time with Kim. Dinner and swing dancing :O Then we came pack to the FM area for the rest of the weekend. Big news broke on Saturday, but I'll leave that for Sara to post if she decides to ;)

I woke up ten minutes before the start of my first class this morning, that's always fun. I felt gross for the next five hours, but at least I got there on time. Bad breath, a full bladder, and a quiz using a half-asleep brain...

Racquetball was fun tonight. I'm definitely getting better, although I'm still not that good. We were able to use real racquets this week thankfully. After that we had an enlightening Bible study.

In other exciting news, thanks to the end of Ramadan and Eid ul-Fitr on Friday I get to go swing dancing with Kim :D

I met with my favorite adviser today and planned a little more of my future. Lots of good advice... Anyway, the courses I know for sure that I'm taking are Ancient Rome (The same professor as my current Ancient Greece class) and Intro to Probability and Statistics (MAT 521, the second to last step for my Math minor). I also have a few Political Science courses nailed down, but I have to work on the scheduling. I'm also officially licensed and insured as of tomorrow. The reading for today: The Precinct of Death (Infant sacrifice in Ancient Carthage), Overseas Conquests (Rome and the Punic Wars), and essays on Ancient Greek democracy (including the professor who I went to see the Friday before last, *shout out to Josiah Ober*).

Hello folks. This week has been weird. Two fairly large assignments due in the beginning of the week, and then much less than usual. I've actually been getting some sleep :O, despite some weird *cough* dreams.

I've also been feeling a little weird, I haven't pinpointed it yet. Going out tonight with Campus Crusade helped though. It got me doing something besides sitting around and getting work done.

In happier news, I just preordered the new White Stripes single, The Denial Twist. Three versions, two 7" vinyl and one CD for a grand total of $35.21. I think the shipping prices have gone up or something, I only remember paying $25ish last time, and that had a 12" single in the set. Oh well, it's worth it, they are being imported from the UK after all. I wish I could go to the corner store and pick them up. Speaking of silly Americans, that reminds me of this screenshot from my favorite game of all time. (Click to ZOOM!)

Anyway.

I also got four more White Stripes bootlegs today... Those crazy French websites. I can hardly read them, but I can see the downloads and the date/location, that's good enough for me.

A fun time had by all. Yes, the concert was amazing. Even Sara thought so, and you know how she is ;)

The trip, as you can tell from the pictures, was fun. I think it was 524 miles each way. I got some driving in, but I had an annoying cold on the way back, and I was getting too sick to drive. Sara likes to goof off in the car, and take pictures, lots of pictures... I think she took over 225 for the trip, 90% in the car.

We got to the concert itself, after staying at our Aunt and Uncle's house for the first night, on Sunday we went into Detroit to the Masonic Temple. The building itself was really pretty, especially inside. Soon after we got there, we realized we couldn't take cameras inside, so we had to call dad back to pick it up.

There were two opening acts, the Greenhornes and a band of which I didn't catch the name. They were two young boys (I would guess 8 and 11) a man on drums who looked like he could be their father. The novelty was nice, but it got old after a couple songs. They wasted the best of my hearing before the Stripes came out. The Greenhornes were quite good though, definitely worth listening to, especially their bluesy stuff.

The White Stripes were FANTASTIC. Unbelievable. They played all of the songs I wanted to hear, some I wasn't expecting, and even a couple I've never heard before. Here's the setlist:

Jack and Meg looked amazing, as expected, both splendidly dressed. Meg had black trousers and a plain white shirt, in striking contrast to Jack, who sported a full Mexican-looking black outfit. It was something like this, but not quite. Mostly black with some white highlights.

I liked what he was wearing at the concert better, if I ever find a picture, I'll post it. The set was amazing too, with white palm trees and stage lights. I don't know if I've ever seen some much red :)

I never had a chance to get one of the 3" record players, they only had 12 for the show. After the first 15 customers or so, according the merchandise guy, they were sold out. Oh well, they cost $100 dollars anyway, so I probably wouldn't have gotten one. Anyway, I had a great trip. As promised, lots of pictures, if two weeks late.

Amazing... The White Stripes live in Detroit. They're from Detroit. The last show of their 2005 American tour. Meg. Jack. Pandemonium. I wish you could be there, because this is certainly going to be a life-changing event for all involved.
I know you're sad, but you'll get by. There will be other shows. But there's something special about this one.If I'm lucky, I'll get to see one of these, maybe even own one! Made exclusively for the fans of The White Stripes, these 3" record players and matching singles are so hot, only dozens know they exist! It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine ;)

Atom Heart Mother

This is one of the better album covers/titles I've seen lately. Even though it's from 1970, I've recently been introduced.

"The Amazing Pudding" was the original name, which is good as well. Before the album was released, the band came across the newspaper headline "ATOM HEART MOTHER." The article was about a pregnant woman with an atomic pacemaker. Pretty cool...

As for the album cover, the original vinyl didn't have any text that gave away the artist or title. The band request 'something plain' for the cover because they didn't want to be associated with any particular image or style.

So there you go, a cow. I've been listening to Pink Floyd way to much lately.

School's going well enough. I've decided to drop Greek (language). I took it for fun and it was taking up too much time. I have some other really demanding classes this semester that take priority.

Rant: $165 for the books for one course. Asinine.

Anyway, back to studying for math.

Well, after a great weekend, it's been a little hard getting back into things here at SU. My math teacher let us out on time (a first). I got my first Greek lang quiz back (91!). I bought a man purse. Ha ha. I got tired of carrying my books around without a proper enclosure.

I got two new posters today, and I just finished putting them up.

Sara will like one of them. After I bought it I noticed what looks like a gold necklace floating in the middle of the picture. It's weird. And yes, she was a bizzle fo shizzle in that movie, I don't care what you say. *cough* Sara *cough*

I like the picture though.

The other is just classic and I've been listening to the album for days straight anyway. It doesn't depress me too much, despite the subject matter.

Classes are mostly good. My math class is boring and the teacher is getting annoying already. Two classes so far and we've gotten out late both times. She assures us it won't normally happen. Okay...

Greek is the most interesting, but I can tell it's going to take a lot of work. Once I learn enough words, I'll start blogging in Attic Greek :P

I've been getting a lot of sleep lately, and it needs to stop. I have to get some work done after all.

Hmm... the second computer is up and running after some Linux/SUBS (ask me what SUBS is!) nightmares. Go SETI go.

It was raining most of the day, and it would have been a good opportunity to wear my hat, but it wasn't that hard in the morning. Maybe tomorrow?
